A WOMAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a head-on collision with a lorry early this morning.
The woman in her 50s was driving towards Evesham on the A46 between Beckford and Ashton Under Hill at about 5.35am this morning when she collided with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
The front of the woman’s car, a red Ford Escort, was completely crumpled following the crash and she had to be cut free by firefighters.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service rapid response vehicle was first on scene and was backed up by an ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the trauma doctor.
An off duty paramedic from South Western Ambulance Service who was passing also stopped to offer assistance.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman had been trapped by her feet and it took about 45 minutes for ambulance staff and firefighters to cut her free.
“The woman had suffered a fractured right leg and had potentially serious injuries to her chest, abdomen and pelvis,” he said. “She was immobilised and had splints fitted to her leg and pelvis.
“After being given pain relief and treatment at the scene, she was taken to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
“The lorry driver was uninjured and he was discharged on scene after a check over by ambulance staff.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash can call police on 101 quoting incident 65-s-070715.
