SCHOOLS may soon face 'bankruptcy' if they are not better funded by government, according to parent campaigners.

The parents say urgent action needs to be taken to make Education funding fairer or the future of millions of children will be at risk.

The campaigners met with Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston to pass on their concerns that improvements to how Worcestershire's schools are funded must be made now.

They believe the county's schools are some of the worst funded in the country because central government allocates money to local authorities based on outdated criteria.

They have set up the Fair Pupil Funding group to campaign for a swift end to unfair pupil funding.

The group aims to support the work already done by the f40 group, which has long represented the 40 worst funded local authorities and campaigned for change to the way government money is distributed.

At the meeting at Droitwich Library on Friday, July 17, Mr Huddleston agreed to pass on parents' concerns to the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan.

The Fair Pupil Funding co-ordinator, Fizz Bewley, said the government needed to introduce a national formula that funded every area based on its actual pupil needs.

She said: "We are pushing for urgent change because, with education cuts forecast, more than a third of schools, which are already underfunded, can no longer make do and mend.

"Quite simply, if nothing changes they face bankruptcy.

"The future of millions of our children is at stake.”

The group has set up a website – fairpupilfunding.co.uk - Facebook group and also an online petition, which will be sent to the Secretary of State for Education.
