FLOOD water continues to rise across Worcestershire following a battering from Storm Imogen which has already wreaked havoc in the county.

The Environment Agency has flood warnings in place on the River Severn at Hanley Castle and Saxons Lodge, at Hanley Road in Upton and at Court Meadow, Kempsey and Callow End.

A peak level of between 4.7 and 5 metres is expected to occur on Wednesday afternoon at Upton.

According to information from the Kempsey Yacht Club and Saxons Lode at 5 am today the level at the Kempsey Yacht Club Gauge was 6.24 metres and rising slowly.

A peak level of between 6.2 and 6.5 metres is expected to occur on Wednesday afternoon.

On the river Avon flood warnings are in place at Evesham, Strensham and Bredon and at Wyre Piddle.

In total there are 21 flood warnings in force across the Midlands and the Met Office is forecasting more heavy rain in Worcestershire on Friday after drier spells over the coming days.

We reported yesterday how two young children, a boy aged four and a girl aged seven, were hurt when a wall collapsed in Bretforton near Evesham.

Both were taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the girl having suffered serious leg and facial injuries and the boy having suffered serious leg and back injuries after the wall, part of Bretforton Hall, came down in high winds.

Meanwhile, in Ledbury a mother and son had to be rescued after their car became stuck in rapidly rising flood water.

The pair from Worcester were rescued by firefighters from a flood in Hollow Lane, Staplow, near Ledbury just after 8pm on Saturday.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire said on Twitter this morning: “Reminder for commute. B4211 Hanley Road Upton is closed due to flooding. 2 other main roads to town unaffected & Upton is open 4 business.”
