A COTSWOLD company has moved into drone technology to capture fantastic aerial images and video of Worcestershire sights.

Evesham resident Paul Attwood has founded Attwood Media, which now offers aerial photography and filming services for various markets, including film production companies, the farming community, and domestic and commercial property.

Paul originally worked in print media where he developed his creative eye and understanding of the importance of great visuals. He went on to study a degree in digital media at the University of Worcester.

Mr Attwood is now an associate staff member at the university, working with Worcester Media lab to introduce drones to computer science students and to provide support for external projects.

Mr Attwood said he is excited about drone science and research technology, especially for conservation and environmental protection as it offers discrete cost-effective aerial imagery, on demand.

Mr Attwood is also now testing new thermal camera attachment technology, which he says has already proved highly useful in the field.

When he initially came up with the idea of starting his own aerial film and photography business, it took a further six months of hard study with aerospace and aviation experts Resource Group Training Solutions, before obtaining his remote pilot qualification.

This was needed as anyone wanting to use a drone for commercial use must gain the national qualified entity NQE standard set by the Civil Aviation Authority.

“You should never hire a drone operator that cannot show you their ‘Permission for Aerial Work’ from the UK Civil Aviation Authority,” Mr Attwood said.

"Having this ensures the operator has received suitable training in the safe operation of drones and is also has full public liability insurance."
