An Evesham drama society could be set to add a trophy to its cabinet after being nominated for a national award.

The Evesham Operatic and Dramatic Society (EODS) has been shortlisted by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) for the Best Concert within District 5 of the West Midlands Region for their May 2023 production, 'Broadway and Beyond'.

The EODS is no stranger to NODA, as it was previously nominated and secured a win for its 2022 production, 'The Musical Alphabet'.

Directed by professional actor and former member Daniel Callaghan, 'Broadway and Beyond' marked his directorial debut for the EODS.

The Broadway-style show spurred a follow-up production of 'Calendar Girls The Musical' in November 2023.

The EODS is now in full swing preparing its May show, 'Funny Girl'.

The classic musical, known for songs like 'Don't Rain on My Parade', was made famous by the 1968 Barbra Streisand film that tells the heartwarming story of Fanny Brice, a performer who had a rollercoaster rise in the Ziegfeld Follies.

For the show, EODS has added theatre graduate Phoebe Smithies to the cast, a newcomer to the EODS who will be taking on the central role of Brice.

Performances of 'Funny Girl' will be staged at The Henrician from Tuesday 14 to Saturday, March 18.

Evening performances will begin at 7:30pm while an additional matinee is scheduled for a 2:30pm on the Saturday.

Tickets are available for £16 from www.henrician.org/tickets/

The EODS say that tickets are selling fast, and encourage potential attendees to book early.
