WORCESTER Warriors have signed former Bath back-row Mat Gilbert.

The flanker has been training at Sixways for a month and impressed during three appearances for Cavaliers, where he has scored two tries.

The 28-year-old, who began his career with Llanelli Scarlets, had a spell at Mogliano in Italy before his move to Bath.

Gilbert, who is the only deaf professional sportsman in England, has also appeared for the England deaf rugby team.

Gilbert said: "I'm really excited to have signed for Warriors and I am really grateful for the opportunity that I was given by Dean Ryan when I left Bath.

"I've immensely enjoyed playing for the Cavaliers in recent weeks and I am now looking forward to working hard and being part of this club's future.

"There is a fantastic team spirit here and everybody wants to be part of something special so it is a very exciting time for everyone involved with the club.”

Warriors director of rugby Ryan said: "We are always willing to give opportunities to people here and Mat is someone who has taken every opportunity that has presented itself in the past month.

"He has excelled for the Cavaliers and is somebody who has added to the group we have already assembled here so we look forward to working closely with him.”
