EVESHAM United’s winless streak was extended to nine games despite a creditable 1-1 draw at fourth-placed Taunton Town.

Paul Collicutt’s side looked to be heading for an Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West defeat as the game entered the second minute of stoppage-time.

But Sean Wood’s flag-kick was handled in the box by a home defender and skipper Matt Sysum tucked away the resulting penalty.

It was a deserved equaliser for the Robins, who went into the game without their entire strike-force and gave a debut to Adam Mann on a one-month loan from Gloucester City.

Evesham’s habit of conceding early goals struck again when Jamie Price headed in Jamie Short’s corner after just five minutes.

Mann looked prominent for United going forward and had a header well saved by Lloyd Irish.

He then beat the Peacocks keeper only to see the ball crash against a post before being cleared.

Robins keeper Kevin Sawyer made a flying save from Kyle Bassett and denied Price a second goal after the break.

But Evesham went on to dominate possession as Kevin Slack, Mann and Sysum all went close.

In injury-time, Sawyer joined his team-mates for Wood’s corner, which resulted in a handball and Sysum coolly converted the spot-kick.

Sawyer saved from Graham Mercieca late on to secure the point.

Evesham: Sawyer, Wilson, Wellon, Harding, Sysum, Dovey, M Jackson, Stanley, Palmer (Wood 73), Mann, Slack (Drake 63). Subs not used: Comfort, Binns.
