EVESHAM Golf Club held their mixed Christmas competition.

The morning teams were faced with the worst frost of the year and had to play to temporary greens.

Although the going was cold and tough, they enjoyed the challenge with the team of John Hutcheon, Lesley Kewley, Brian Rogers and Patsy Brumage leading the way.

The second round of players had a much easier time of it during a sunny afternoon with 12 greens in play.

The scores were high with John Machin, Ann Cowley, Mark Harrison and Conryn Abbott winning with 87 points.

Second were Brian Osborne, Jean Bevan, Roger Smith and Carolyn Washbourne with 86 ahead of Ken Crane, Ruth Masters, Steve Deakin and Margaret Roberts (84).

Nearest the pin for the men and ladies were Osborne and Melanie Evans respectively. Prizes for birdies were won by Cowley, Bevan, John Curtis, Richard Cross, Jenny Masser, Machin, Harrison and Phil Wheeler.

Professional Dan Clee, Audrey Tomkins, Valerie Bomford, Audrey Piddington, Peter Lawrance and Verity Lawrance all supported the day.

Meanwhile, a nine-hole Texas scramble brought Broadway’s ladies out to play their final competition of 2014 in chilly conditions.

Helen Perry, Juliet Enderby, Wendy Hicks and Jenny Brindley won with 34.3 nett.

Second with 34.9 were Annabelle Carter, Diana Chambers, Judith Noyce and Jackie Hunt, leaving Veronoca Rudd, Margaret Riley, Valerie de la Pena and Barbara Crew third on 36.4.

The ladies’ captain’s drive-in is on Tuesday, January 6.

Harvington Golf Society members ended the year with a festive competition in soggy conditions at The Vale.

But the excellent greens promoted good scoring.

Despite losing a ball on the par-five eighth hole, Ian Tyrrell returned a fine 37 points.

He won the Challenge Plate by one shot from Leigh Canham, who was a further point in front of Paul Harper.

After lunch, using just three clubs, including and a putter, Harper recorded one-under gross and 24 points to take home the Three Club Trophy.
