PERSHORE’S Tazmin Pugh won the most outstanding swimmer trophy after competing for England in the Energy Standard International Cup in Italy.

The 15-year-old and her team-mates faced a combined Russia and Ukraine team, Germany and Italy in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

Pugh won three gold medals and a silver as well as setting three regional junior under 16s records.

She is now ranked first in Europe in the 100-metre butterfly and second in the 200m butterfly behind England team-mate Laura Stephens for 15 to 16-year-olds.

The Ellesmere College Titans Swimming Academy ace set off in determined mood in her first full international championships for England.

In the 50m butterfly, she recorded the best United Kingdom effort at her end of year age with 27.55 seconds to win gold and go up to ninth in the European rankings.

The second day began with Pugh powering her way to another new regional record in the 200m butterfly in two minutes 12.39 seconds, winning by 1.5 seconds.

She was seeded fifth for the 800m freestyle but the former Pershore club swimmer’s race plan to pace herself paid off with a silver medal in a new personal best of 8.54.84.

In the 100m butterfly, Pugh swam confidently to her third regional record with the performance of the weekend, taking her third gold in 1.00.33.

She collected the trophy for most outstanding swimmer as England finished second overall behind Italy.

The improving Pugh has now achieved 13 regional junior under 16s records in the last six months.
