MANAGER Paul Collicutt believes Evesham United’s last-gasp triumph against Winchester City will lift confidence for an important FA Cup tie tomorrow (3pm).
The Robins head to Chasetown in a preliminary round clash seven days after blunting free-scoring Winchester in a 1-0 victory in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.
Loan signing Louis McGrory, from Forest Green Rovers, marked his Evesham debut with an injury-time winner against Winchester and is allowed to play at Chasetown.
But United will be without Ashley Edenborough who has rejoined Swindon Supermarine and ex-Worcester City midfielder Lee Smith who has quit the club for Cinderford Town.
Forward Lance Smith is set to return along with wide player Marcus Jackson, who has served a three-match suspension and overcome a hip injury.
Collicutt is pleased 18-yearold midfielder McGrory has been given clearance by Rovers for the clash at Northern Premier First Division South Chasetown.
“Forest Green have got great hopes for Louis and they had a number of other clubs interested in taking him, mostly in the London area where the manager comes from,” said Collicutt.
Last season, Evesham enjoyed a memorable FA Cup run, narrowly missing out on the first round proper after Bromley sealed a narrow 2-1 win at the Jubilee Stadium.
Chasetown shot to national prominence in the 2007/08 season when they toppled Port Vale to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time before losing 3-1 in television match to eventual finalists Cardiff City.
Collicutt said: “The FA Cup gives everyone a lift . It will be a difficult game. Chasetown play at the same level as us in the pyramid and I have had them watched and they are a decent side.”
He added: “Our confidence is high after beating Winchester, who were a very confident team and had come into our game on the back of some thumping wins.
“The lads worked really hard and showed what a good side they are.”
