WORCESTER professional footballer Jamie Insall is enjoying his first taste of competitive action in Scotland with East Fife.

The former Worcester Raiders and Bromyard Town marksman has joined the Scottish League Division Two outfit on loan from Championship high-fliers Hibernian.

Worcester-born-and-bred Insall experienced a rollercoaster full debut for East Fife after being sent off just two minutes after scoring in a 5-3 win over East Stirling.

Insall is hoping his month’s emergency loan spell at Bayview Stadium, which ends at the beginning of December, will be extended.

Gary Naysmith is the manager of East Fife and is a former teammate of Hibs boss Alan Stubbs.

Insall said: “It’s going well at East Fife – it’s a good set-up and hopefully they will extend my loan but that is something that is not in my control.

“I have been playing in development matches for Hibs and I didn’t know what to expect in Scottish League Division Two.

“But I think the standard is probably better than the National League in England. Teams try to pass the ball more and it’s very competitive.

“There’s nothing better than training all week and getting the buzz of playing on a Saturday.

“I hadn’t had that feeling since June and although I have been playing in development games, it’s not the same as playing in front of around 700 people where the result is crucial.”

He added: “I played 28 minutes in my first game for East Fife in a 1-1 draw at Arbroath and I started my second match.

“It was eventful. I scored, set up a goal and was then red-carded for a foul.

“I had an adrenaline rush after I scored and that’s something I need to control because I was sent off when the team needed me the most.

“My foot was quite high and I got it wrong.”

After starting with Kidderminster Harriers’ youth side, Insall, 23, played for Stourport Swifts, Redditch United, Pershore Town and Westfields among others.

He scored 42 goals last season for Worcester Raiders and Bromyard Town in the West Midlands League and has netted more than 80 in the last two campaigns.

Insall, who was also playing in the Worcester and District Sunday League last season for WCT Youth Raiders, joined Hibs from Stourbridge on a three-year deal in the summer.

He has yet to make an appearance for Hibs’ first team, although he was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win at Queen of the South.

Insall admitted: “At the moment, there are a few things that need tweaking before I can break into Hibs’ first team.

“Hibs have some very experienced strikers and are joint top of the Championship with Rangers and pushing for promotion.

“I am getting there but it’s going to take time before I get fully up to speed.

“When I arrived at Hibs in the summer, I weighed 13-and-a-half stone.

“I have lost around a stone-and-a-half since then so I feel in great shape and am looking after myself.”

Insall is looking forward to his girlfriend moving up to Edinburgh in the middle of December and admits that Christmas has come early.

“Hibs are having their Christmas away trip this weekend to Newcastle, so we’re all looking forward to having a good time,” he added.

“They have a busy and important Christmas programme of matches so the club allowed us to celebrate Christmas early.”
