A LARGE field of The Vale seniors competed for the prestigious Eric Salter Trophy.

The white tee medal was played on a fine, dry morning on a course in excellent condition with fast and true greens. 

Conditions on the par 74 were not easy with punishing rough resulting in a standard scratch par of 76. 

Leading the field home was immediate past captain Rob Sharp with a carefully-crafted round of 87 gross 75 nett.

Second in Division One was Brian Brumhead with 90-76.  

Division Two went to Michael Hurd (95-77) ahead of Martin Butler (99-79), Ian Phillips (98-80) and Barry Crosbie (99-82).  

Brian Bunn (102-76) took Division Three followed by Tony Horner (100-77), Bob Foster (101-78) and Andy Castello (102-80).

The twos competition was won by David Hudson and Barry Sayers, while nearest the pin was Brumhead.

The Vale seniors earned a draw against Feldon Valley. 

Early wins for David Webb and Roger Hawes by one hole and Mike Roberts and David Millard 3&2 put The Vale in a strong position.

The final pair of John Turner and Mick Heard, with a victory by 6&4, secured the match half.

All eight pairs won against Naunton Downs to complete a whitewash.

Team captain David Rimell and John Milward triumphed 5&4, Martin Rees and Brian Leggot 4&3 and Hawes and Nic Fielden 7&6.

The Vale’s lady captain’s day was played over 16 holes with many over water. 

The three-ball Texas scramble was keenly contested with Sally Smith, Terri Hawes and Patt Elliott winning with 58 points. 

Second were Lyn Robinson, Di Morris and Margaret Perryman with 60.5 and Pat Martin, Mary Collier and Sandra Cornwell finished third on 61.6.

The longest drives were by Smith and Trish Hulburd, with nearest the pin going to Fee Mitchell and Mary Parsloe.

The Vale’s 25th anniversary involves a week of celebration, ending with a founders’ day competition and gala evening on Sunday, July 31.

Owners and captains past and present will join friends and families for an evening of reflection.

Meanwhile, 22 members competed in the Evesham ladies’ 36-hole club championship over two days in perfect playing conditions.

Joan Hunt was crowned the club champion and picked up the salver for best gross score. Marlene Billings secured the silverware for best nett.

Evesham held a ladies’ invitation day with a four-ball better-ball Stableford in wet conditions.

Billings secured another success after teaming up with Barbara Hemmings from Tewkesbury Park to win with 39 points.

Angela Fletcher was joined by a Lilly Brook player to take second spot with 38 followed by Conryn Abbott and The Vale’s Julie Newman with 36.

Evesham’s Lesley Kewley was nearest the pin and Brickhampton’s Carys Jones was closest to the line.

A raffle later raised £125 for the lady captain’s chosen charity.
