EVESHAM United secured their first Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West win of the season and ended Wimborne Town's 100 per cent record.

The Robins ground out a 2-0 win at the Jubilee Stadium as Lance Smith and substitute Adam Mann scored in the second half.

Captain Matt Sysum’s header from a corner was diverted over by team-mate Smith for Evesham after 12 minutes.

Robins keeper Sam Gilder was alert to palm over Jamie Davidson's lob as the game flew by at a frenetic pace.

Nick Stanley shot wide for the hosts from the edge of the area and Smith was thwarted at point-blank range by away keeper Pat O’Flaherty.

But, once the breakthrough went the way of the home side after 52 minutes, Wimborne were unable to regain a foothold.

The visitors were overpowered down the right as Smith played Paul Fahy into space to drag the ball back from the goal-line.

Stanley found himself crowded out but Smith had made up enough ground to power home from close range.

The game was almost up when United substitute Lorcan Sheehan released Smith down the right to cut across the box and unleash a shot that was deflected against the bar by Sam Davidson.

Stanley rounded O’Flaherty but somehow Paddy Hester cleared off the line.

Then a quick short corner saw the ball come back in for Mann to make the most of the chaos and nudge home late on, sealing Evesham’s victory.
