EVESHAM United's pre-season programme continued last weekend with a 2-0 win over Easington Sports.

Second-half goals from Will Owens and Levi Steele wrapped up the victory for the Robins against their Step 5 opponents from the United Counties League Premier Division South.

It was the first win for Mike Ford's men this summer, after a 4-2 defeat to Cheltenham Town XI and a 1-1 draw with Bromsgrove Sporting.

Despite being a level below, it was the visitors who had the opening chance of the match when Dan Watkin's header drifted just wide of Lewis Adams' post in the Robins' goal.

In response, Evesham's Amer Awadh then produced a good save out of Easington's Adam Doyle but that was about as close as either side really came to a goal as the half ended 0-0.

Adams made a good stop to deny Chay Buckingham but it would be Evesham that took the lead in the 52nd minute. Summer signing Steele turned in the box before firing past the keeper.

Six minutes later it was 2-0 as a superb, dipping free-kick from Owens nestled into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Evesham had chances to extend their lead further and Steele should have made it 3-0 from close range, but could only blast a shot over the bar.

Doyle produced another good save to keep the score down before Buckingham was denied once more as the game eventually ended 2-0 for the home side.

The games keep coming for Evesham as they host a Coventry City XI on Saturday afternoon at the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium (15:00 kick-off).

The Robins also now know when their season will begin after the fixtures were released by the Southern League last Friday. They will open their campaign with a trip to Exmouth Town before they play their first home game three days later on August 15.

The local derby with newly-promoted Malvern Town will take place on Boxing Day, with the reverse fixture at Evesham at the start of April.
