AARON Heap scored his first goal for the club in stoppage time to rescue a point for 10-man Evesham United in their 1-1 draw at Melksham Town on Saturday afternoon.

It was a typically dull first-half with neither side able to create much in the way of chances and the task at hand was made a more challenging one for the away team when Alfie Dunn was shown a red card at the end of the first-half, a seventh sending off for Evesham this season.

The first chance came just before the half-hour mark as Levi Steele’s effort was parried by the keeper and Ethan Moran was just pipped to the rebound as he looked to poke the visitors ahead.

Dunn received his marching orders in the dying minutes of the first half when Dunn was deemed to be showing studs by the referee and he became the latest Evesham player to be sent from the pitch in the 2023/24 campaign.

The task for Evesham then doubled in difficulty 15 minutes into the second-half as Melksham took the lead with a superb free kick from 30 yards out through Albert Hopkins.

However, there was a lifeline for The Robins ten minutes later as Melksham also received a red card when Ben Brooks was dismissed.

The final stages of the game were dominated by Evesham and it took a 91st minute equaliser by Heap to steal that late point.

Despite it being just a draw, Evesham remain just three points outside the playoffs and stretch their unbeaten league run to six games.
